Golf Update

The East Golf Course continues to grow in from the recent overseed. Fairways and tees have been mowed twice and will be done a third time prior to the opening of the course on Monday, October 12. Despite the warmer temperatures during the day, cool mornings and evenings have been helpful in the overall maturation of the new turf.

The South Course will close that same Monday for maintenance, which will include overseed of tee boxes only as the course features paspalum fairways and roughs. The greens will be aerified as well. The scheduled re-opening of the South is Saturday, October 24.

Golf Update

It's that time of year where we begin our planned maintenance of each of the three courses. The first phase will involve the East Course, which will close September 21 and re-open on October 12.

During this time, we will aerify the greens as well as overseed the tees, fairways and greens surrounds.

Both the North and South Courses will remain open for play.

Golf Update

With more and more golf traffic on our courses, it is important to not only understand what the impact is on otherwise healthy turfgrass but also what steps you can take to help minimize the damage.

Foot and vehicular traffic are a constant source of stress to turf. The most notable types of traffic-related damage are wear damage and soil compaction.

Wear damage caused by foot and vehicle traffic results in bruising or tearing of turf. Plant tissues lose water as well as chlorphyll and ultimately the plant will die.

Soil compaction resulting from traffic going over the same area compresses the soil so tightly that water and oxygen can't move in our out of the soil, and plant roots can't penetrate the rock hard soils. No root growth causes the plant to suffer from lack of of nutrients and water, which slows recovery and can eventually kill the plant.

So, what can we all do to help improve overall conditions relative to wear from traffic:

*When requested, keep carts on path.

*When entering and exiting fairways, scatter to avoid multiple carts driving on the same tracks.

*Follow all cart traffic directional signage.

*When walking on and off greens and tees, avoiding walking on areas of visibly noticeable stressed turf.

Hopefully we can all work together to create a much healthier, consistent product for our members and guests.

Golf Update

Beginning next Monday we will be aerifying nine holes per week for the next three weeks. This will take place Mon.-Fri., with the course re-opening on Sat. The first course to be completed will be the North Course. In advance of this process we have fertilized the greens on North and will continue this process prior to aerification of each nine.

Also, recently all 3 nines were sprayed with fungicide and we are completing re-sodding work on the 6th fairway of the North Course.

All of these efforts come in advance of what is expected to be a busy summer season.

Golf Update

Last weekend we recieved an 1" of rain from late Thursday night into Saturday. The course drained well enough for us to complete our Men's Member-Guest (The Tradition) without interruption. Five nine hole matches we played over two days with a horse race after Saturday's final round to determine the overall winner.

On another note, a recent Golf Committee meeting led to a couple of determinations regarding course etiquette. In an effort to create consistency we will make a more concerted effort to communicate the desire of the Club to keep rakes inside of the bunkers. Also, the committee has asked the staff to work more diligently on enforcing the "two carts per foursome" rule as well as cart access in proximity to putting surfaces.

Overall the committee meeting have been productive and all action items are being addressed in a timely manner.

Golf Update

Recently we fertilized all 27 holes, and the turf has really started to "pop" with consistently sunny days and moderate temperatures.

On Monday, we will be topdressing the fairways on the 6th and 7th holes of the North Course. These areas were recently aerified as there is greater soil compaction than the rest of the golf course.

Golf Update

We currently have several projects going, some of which have been completed at this point.

A new pump/motor assembly was recently installed on the South Course to replace a faulty unit that could not be repaired.

Aerification of the fairways on holes #6 and #7 was also done this week. These two areas have more compacted soils that the rest of the golf course and need to be addressed more frequently. Mulch was also added on hole #7 in some spots to provide a cleaner look and better playability.

Tree work continues as we trim back some overgrowth and remove some dead material. We are also adding flowers in areas on the course and around the clubhouse to provide more color.
